How to add a holding
A holding is a single position — a stock, bond, wallet balance, or custom asset — inside an account. The form adapts to the type you pick, so what you fill in depends on that choice.
- Go to Holdings.
- Click Add holding.
- Pick a type:
- Cash — a currency balance (USD, EUR, UAH, anything).
- Stock / Fund — public shares, ETFs, REITs, mutual funds.
- Bond — a government bond (a Ukrainian or US Treasury) or another issue with a coupon and maturity.
- Crypto — tokens, stablecoins, on-chain positions (manual entry — for auto-synced balances add a crypto address to the account instead).
- Custom — anything else. You name it, you price it.
- Fill in the fields for that type (see below).
- Save — this books an opening transaction for the holding, dated the Date you set.
Cash fields
- Name (optional) — a label for this balance; defaults to the currency code if left blank.
- Currency.
- Amount — the opening balance. A negative amount opens it as a debt or overdraft instead of a positive balance.
- APY — the annual interest rate this balance earns, used only to project future interest income; leave blank if it doesn't earn interest.
- Account and Date.
Stock / Fund and Crypto fields
- Asset — search by ticker or name. Stock search checks your existing assets first, then live market data; crypto search only checks your existing assets. Can't find it? Add manually with a symbol, name, and currency — Skarbfolio tracks it without a live price feed until you connect one.
- Quantity — units held.
- Avg cost / unit — your average cost per unit, including fees (total cost basis ÷ quantity). Pre-filled with the asset's last known price when you pick it.
- Ccy — the currency the quantity/price are recorded in.
- Network (crypto only) — which chain the tokens are on (Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, Solana, Bitcoin, or Other). This is for your own record-keeping, not an on-chain balance sync — see tracking crypto addresses for auto-synced ones.
- Account and Purchase date.
- Cost basis — read-only, computed as quantity × avg cost.
- Deduct cost from a cash wallet — when on, also records a matching withdrawal from a cash holding in this account, so the position's cost actually leaves your tracked cash. Turn it off if you're just tracking a position without funding it from tracked cash.
- Add a dividend schedule (only for a stock you added manually — a stock picked from the search gets its dividends from market data) — see dividend schedules for what each field there means.
Bond fields
- Code / issuer — the bond's code (
UA4000…for a Ukrainian Treasury, the 9-character CUSIP for a US Treasury), the issuer, the term (e.g.10-Year) or the maturity year. Type to search the bond catalog; picking a result fills in currency, coupon and maturity for you. - Currency.
- Bonds (count) — how many bonds you hold, not their face value (e.g. 100 bonds at ₴1,000 face value each). A US Treasury counts in $100 of face value: $10,000 face is 100 bonds.
- Purchase price (total) — the total amount you paid for all the bonds in this purchase, not the price per bond.
- Coupon % — the annual coupon rate paid on face value (e.g. 15% means ₴150/year per ₴1,000 face value, usually split across multiple payments).
- Maturity date and Purchase date.
- Account.
- Deduct cost from a cash wallet — same as above: also books a matching withdrawal from a cash holding in this account.
The catalog refreshes once a day, so a very new issue may take a day to appear in the search. See tracking bonds for what the catalog gives you.
Custom fields
- Name — what it is (real estate, private equity, collectibles, anything else).
- Asset class — optional, defaults to Other. Decides which slice and filter it appears under; see Custom assets.
- Quantity, Avg cost / unit, and Currency.
- Account and Purchase date.
- Cost basis — read-only, computed as quantity × avg cost.
- Deduct cost from a cash wallet — same behavior as above.
- Add a dividend schedule — for custom assets that pay out on a schedule too; see dividend schedules.
Editing later
Edit holding only lets you rename the holding or move it to another account — quantity, avg cost, and currency are locked once created. To change the position itself, use Add transaction to record further buys, sells, dividends, or interest against the same holding.
