How to add a transaction
Transactions are the events — buy, sell, dividend, interest, transfer — that build a holding's history. Which fields you see, and what they mean, changes with the transaction type you pick.
- Go to Holdings and find the holding, or go to Activity.
- Click Add transaction.
- Choose the Transaction type — the options offered depend on the asset:
- Stock / Custom: Buy, Sell, Dividend, Fee.
- Bond: Buy, Sell, Coupon, Redemption, Fee.
- Crypto: Buy, Sell, Deposit, Withdraw, Fee.
- Cash: Deposit, Withdraw, Interest, Fee.
- Fill in the fields (see below).
- Save.
The transaction immediately updates the holding's quantity, average cost, and your account balances.
Fields
- Account — which account this transaction posts to.
- Quantity / Amount — the label and meaning change with the type: Quantity for Buy/Sell, Shares held for Dividend/Coupon (the number of shares or bonds the payout is based on, not a delta), Bonds redeemed for Redemption, or Amount for Deposit/Withdraw/Interest/Fee.
- Price — hidden for Deposit/Withdraw/Interest/Fee (there's no per-unit price for those). Also relabels: Per share for Dividend/Coupon, Redemption price for Redemption.
- Total value — shown alongside price, normally computed as quantity × price, but directly editable: type a lump-sum payout here and the price recalculates to match, since a dividend or coupon is usually known as a total rather than a per-share rate.
- Balance after — only shown for Deposit/Withdraw/Interest, or Fee on a cash holding. Two-way bound to the amount: editing this field recalculates the amount automatically, and vice versa.
- Fee — only shown for Buy/Sell.
- Date — for a bond's Coupon type, this becomes a dropdown of the bond's scheduled coupon dates (✓ marks ones already recorded); picking a date auto-fills the per-bond amount and shares-held from the catalog.
- Book the matching cash movement — only shown for Buy/Sell/Coupon/Dividend/Redemption/Fee on a non-cash asset. When on, also records this transaction's cash impact as a deposit or withdrawal in a cash holding in the same account. Turn it off if you're just logging the transaction without moving tracked cash.
- Note (optional).
Tips
- Picking Dividend or Coupon the first time pre-fills the per-share amount and shares-held from the holding's dividend schedule or the bond's coupon calendar — usually you just confirm it.
- Picking Redemption on a catalog bond jumps the date to maturity and fills in the redemption value and bonds held.
- You can also add a transaction directly from the Activity page using the same Add transaction button — useful when you don't want to navigate to the holding first.
- To edit or remove a transaction after saving it, see edit or delete a transaction.
